Photo lesson 1 ... pictures for holiday cards

Sorry its taken me so long to post this. With the holiday season right around the corner I know alot of people are thinking about family photo's and Holiday cards. I just wanted to post some suggestions on how to get a good photo for your card this year.

1. Have everyone is solid colors or in the same design of shirt (t-shirts with a school or team for example). You don't all have to be in the same shirt or even the same color.

2. Get the family involved in planning the picture. It might help make them more willing subjects when you go to do them.

3. Use a tri-pod or put your camera on a solid STABLE surface and use a timer or if you have one a remote for your camera. Or better yet get together with a friend or family member and take each others family photo's. Your kids might listen better to someone else.

4. Don't be afraid to use props. One year I had a light up Rudolph nose. I have some of the cutest pictures of my niece and nephews with it. The big wooden or papermache letters spelling out words are great too!

5. Group shot didn't work... use individual pictures. Or combine the 2.

6. Don't stress about it. Its not the end of the world if Billy's looking cross eyed at the camera and everyone else looks good. You'll laugh about it later!

7. If possible, use the same location every year. Its a great way to see how your kids/family is growing and changing. I take pictures of my niece and nephew every Thanksgiving in a tree at my mom's house.

8. No one knows when your kids are at thier best like you do... use that to your advantage.

9. Don't forget the pets! They are part of your family too!

10. When all else fails bribe them! lol

11. Have fun!

My little frog hopping around.
Alex loves frogs, every time he sees any thing frog he gets so excited. So thats what he wanted to be for Halloween (who says's 2 year old dint have opion's LOL). Unfortanly his great grandma had to go back to Vegas and she so wanted to see him in all dressed up. Great excuse to do a LO right :) and this is how it tured out. Now if I can just avoid the lecture about the baby near the water (& no this is not real I, cut & pasted him into a picture of a pond). Just have to convince her of that (heheh). Maby I'll just do a new layout for her ???
The pond is from a lovely lady who let me take pictures of her yard, on this years SLC Pond Tour. (will be availble as a background a little later on my blog, I have more editing to do 1st though).

No one can be sure why Uncle Joseph Grange boarded the ammunition Liberty ship SS E.A. Bryan a day early. We do know that he joined the Merchant Marines because he had caught his wife being unfaithful and perhaps used it as a way to distance himself from that situation. We also know that he spent a day with each of his aunts who lived on the California coast, telling them that he loved them and would see them soon. We also know that he had a lot of his father in him--he liked to arrive early! So on July 17, 1944, at 10:18 P. M., for some unknown reason, the 4,600 tons of ammunition exploded aboard the E. A. Bryan--and Uncle Joe, his and another ship and everyone aboard, and many on the ground were gone. The only identifiable piece of the SS E.A. Bryan remaining was the size of a suitcase. The 25,000,000 pounds of ship and ammunition were obliterated! They disappeared! The explosion could be heard 200 miles away, and the shock wave felt as far away as Boulder City, Nevada. And Uncle Joe was gone.

Well I finally found the time to figure out how post here! It took knee surgery and some serious couch time to have time. Looks like some fun things here. I wanted to share with you my lasted LO. I did some serious research getting ready to post this for Meryl Heritage chat and challenge. This week's challenge was to scrap the periferials (aunts, uncles, cousins, ect.) and I also wanted to use Chris' new Naval Kit. Anyway this is what I came up with. Oh boy, do I have a challenge for you. I have been playing and I came up with some fun things. One is a Word Art, 2nd is PNG's, 3rd the template frame to match. So here is how to get them.

This was the first photo I was really happy with after taking a basic photography class. I really didn't intend to shoot my oldest, but when the baby wouldn't cooperate, I told him to hold still for a sec and got this. It's become my favorite photo of him.

I just had to share that I won best of show at the Utah County Fair this weekend in photography and all my pictures won 1ST place ribbons. I also want to challenge everyone.... the state fair is coming up. Did you know they have a scrapbook section? When I looked last year there weren't any digital pages. Lets show the state the power of digital!!! The fair starts on Sept 2 so we have a little time. Who's up for the challenge? I'll post the requirements by tomorrow night.

Sorry for Not Being Around

Thanks for getting this blog off the ground. I haven't had as much time as I'd like to figure it all out, but will try to do so here shortly. My mom had knee replacment surgery and we have been short-handed at work, and with the Olympics (which I am addicted to watching), I haven't had or taken much free time. I did create a fun layout from the pictures me and my sister took from out laptop crop at the library.

Originaly I thought to use it as a frame templet for a LO. I was going to put a pix's in the circles and fad out but as you know it's difficult to find the right pix's for a circle frame. HELP can any body explain what a .rar is and why won't photo shop Elements 6 recognize it. OK so what do I need to use the files of this extension?

A .rar is like a .zip... It's just another way to compress files. I found this one
